— VIVAMUS MORIENDUM EST.

BASIC:FULL NAME: Felix of House Alexius of Asariel
REASON FOR OR MEANING BEHIND NAME: Felix meaning fortunate or lucky. The irony doesn’t escape him.
TITLE: Lord ( even after his father's disgrace, he still is entitled to his seat on the Magistarium though claiming it will not be met without protest )
BIRTH DATE: The 29th of Verimensis ( Wintermarch ), 9:13 Dragon.
AGE: 28 at the time of his death in 9:41 Dragon ( or in some cases 31 at the time of the Exalted March ) He also can live up to another 10/15 years if he becomes a Warden.
GENDER: Male ( he / him / his )
SEXUALITY: Bisexual
SPECIES: Human
ETHINCITY: Tevinter
NATIONALITY: Tevinter
BIRTHPLACE: Asariel, Tevinter
HOMETOWN: They have property in both Asariel ( where the Alexius estate is situated ) and Minrathous ( where Gereon conducted the majority of his research ) and frequently travelled between the two.
FAMILY:
Father: Magister Gereon Alexius
Mother: Lady Livia Arida
Siblings: None
Children: A son
RELIGION: Openly disagrees with the Imperial Chantry and it’s southern counterpart. While he vaguely believes in the nebulous idea of a divine being or Maker, he places his faith in logic and the belief that every phenomenon has a quantifiable explanation, even the forces of Magic. Andraste was simply a mortal mage and a prophet and the entire institution itself is archaic and holds far more power and political weight than it has any right to.
LANGUAGES: Fluent in Trade Tongue, Tevene ( both current and ancient ) and Orlesian and has picked up a fair amount of Antivan, Nevarran, Andersche and Riviani.
AFFILIATION: Circle of Minrathous and then Vyrantium ( briefly ) University of Orlais ( formerly ), Venatori ( by association ), Lucerni ( verse dependent ) and an ally to the Inquisition.
OCCUPATION: Scholar and academic at the University of Orlais, excelling in Mathematics, Logic, Astronomy and Theoretical Magic. He is greatly interested in understanding the nature of existence and Magic itself from a non-magical perspective. The Thedas equivalent of a Theoretical Physicist ( a branch of physics that uses mathematical models and abstractions of physical objects and systems to rationalize, explain and predict natural phenomena ). He owns all the equations. All Of Them.
CLASS: A Mage whose abilities are below average by Tevinter standards and perfectly normal elsewhere. Has some proficiency in primal /elemental spells ( fire, ice and lightning ) and can cast barriers and force fields and kinetically manipulate objects at a distance. This is not enough to compete against his peers or monsters in combat but he can protect himself from a spilt glass of wine. He is also quite proficient in protective wards and sigals and spells that distort ones perception and spatial awareness. While in practise his magic is pretty baseline, his theoretical knowledge is both vast and unutilized.
SPECIALIZATION: He abandoned his training before he could specialize in any particular school of magic.
PHYISCAL:HAIR: Pitch black, wavy and occasionally distractedly tussled. After falling ill, he kept it cropped short and his occasional stubble was the only indication of a sharp decline in interest in his appearance.
EYES: His mother's eyes. Dark brown, warm, expressive and
intelligent. The taint brought with it exhausted shadows and a haunted reproach in his gaze.
SKIN: Healthy: Dusky complexion with the occasional freckle / mole. After falling ill his complexion paled with faint blue-black veins increasingly visible beneath his skin, concentrating around a particularly prominent scar at his side from the attack that left him tainted.
HEIGHT: 6'1"
WEIGHT: 154lbs – 132lbs
BUILD: Tall, naturally slender and lightly muscular: a result of a fair amount of ongoing basic combat ( both hand to hand and with a variety of weapons ) and physical training ( for practical reasons he needed to compensate for his lack of ability to defend himself with magic ) His illness obviously had a dire effect on him physically.
SCARS: A few faded marks one would get in a desperate struggle and one particularly vicious tear from a crude Darkspawn dagger plunged almost hilt deep into his side just below his ribs that, while healed, never stops aching.
TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS: Several unusual runes and sigals scatter his body in faded blue and black.
FACE CLAIM: Rami Malek / Archie Renaux
PERSONALITY:
Felix is the gentle voice of reason and places great value on what is right. He holds no obedience to rules that, if broken, do not hurt anyone and, if followed, cause harm. He is a man of his word: that is to say, he possesses integrity with no hidden agenda or ulterior motives — which is something of a rarity among the elite in Tevinter but it would be wise to never underestimate him.
NOTABLE QUIRKS / TRAITS: The Taint and growing connection to Darkspawn. Mathematical skills on Insanity Level
VIRTUES: steady, measured, level-headed, logical, pragmatic, intelligent, kind, selfless, generous, patient, observant, sagacious, reasonable
VICES: inscrutable, aloof, ( seemingly ) passive and complacent
GENERAL OUTWARD DEMEANER: calm, amiable, soft-spoken
HISTORY:Felix Alexius is the only son, and heir presumptive, of Magister Gereon Alexius of Asariel and Lady Livia Arida of Minrathous. While he showed promising signs of magical ability early on in childhood, by the age of twelve it was evident that he had reached the limit of his magical potential. His talents were underwhelming ( by Tevinter standards ) and made him the brunt of ridicule and bullying from both his fellow students and teachers alike. He was seen by his grandfather as “just barely more than a Soporati” — which was a vast over exaggeration and meant purely as an insult. Both the Houses of Alexius and Arida boasted generations of extraordinarily powerful mages and he simply couldn’t overlook this family disappointment and tried to have him assassinated several times rather than have this ungifted whelp carry the Alexius legacy. Eventually Livia had her father-in-law killed when she found out that he was responsible, immediately placing Gereon as head of House Alexius and Felix as the uncontested heir to the seat on the Magistarium. ( Assassination is an acceptable and common means of succession so barely an eyebrow was raised. )While hardly the powerful mage he was expected to be, Felix was their world and they did all they could to better his chances of surviving the higher echelons of a society ruled exclusively by mages whose success and survival depended on a great deal of magical prowess. Blood magic was suggested by some of his tutors ( though this would be denied ) within the Circle and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t tempted when it seemed to be the only viable option available to him. He left the Circle and abandoned his magical training to study history, art, music, literature, philosophy and anything else that could be useful. He excelled and soon showed an almost unnatural talent for mathematics and was sent to the University of Orlais to further his studies and research with the best mathematical minds in Thedas, quickly proving himself their equal, if not potentially surpassing them.SOME NOTES ON MY PORTRAYAL:Obviously, not much is known about Felix, and while I stick rigidly with the lore and what is presented in canon, I do have a lot of space to build and expand my own interpretations and as a result he has evolved into his own character.
Major additions: a son which I added on a whim and so that there would be a part of him that would have the life he never had. I have also extended his life in some verses to shortly after the Exalted Council so that he can have a larger part to play and have some involvement in the Lucerni.

— NON OMNIS MORIAR

CANON

01 : halcyon days ( early life up to Dragon 9:35 )Short of resorting to blood magic ( and the temptation is strong ), young Felix learns to accept that he will never be a powerful mage. At 16, his natural proclivity towards math and logic earn him a scholarship at the University of Orlais. He doesn’t fit in there either but he is optimistic and quickly learns to navigate his way around Orlesian society. He excels at his studies, earning accolades and commendations for his research.02 : walk with the noise ( Dragon 9:35 - 9:40 )Abruptly, his world shatters. Ever the optimist, he plays the ill-fated cards life deals him with quiet resilience and pragmatism, returning to Asariel to attempt to rebuild after the Darkspawn attack that killed his mother and left him incurably tainted. His father works tirelessly to find a way to save him, magically prolonging his sons life while turning obsessively towards time magic. This draws the attention of the Venatori and Felix is helpless to stop his now-estranged father from rapidly rising within their ranks.03 : suffer the sins of the father ( Inquisition verse Dragon 9:40 – 41 )The Venatori, The Elder One. And a huge tear in the sky. Felix reaches out, with Dorian’s help, to the Inquisition while held up at Redcliffe.a) If the Inquisition sides with the Mages and either conscripts or shelters them as allies, he will return to Tevinter to give his appraisal in hopes of garnering support for the Inquisition and drawing on whatever influence his family has left. He dies shortly after and is laid to rest in Asariel within the family crypt.b) If the Inquisition sides with the Templars, he will be tortured and killed by the Venatori for his role in attempting to reach out to the Inquisition but primarily as punishment for Gereon Alexius’ failures. Alexius disappears completely from existence and his fate is mere speculation.

AU

04 : dawn after an endless night ( Dragon 9:41 - 9:44 )Felix makes the trip to Minrathous where he delivers his testimonial before the Magisterium. While never having much interest in politics he does love his country deeply and feels that he could make better use of his final days by assisting the Inquisition in thier fight against a common enemy. H manages to return to Skyhold and bear witness to the outcome of Gereon Alexius' judgement, offering the inquisition whatever resources and contacts he still has back in Tevinter and Orlais to assist them in their fight against the Venatori ( of which he knows more than a few things about considering his experience with them ).He returns to Tevinter with Dorian once Corypheus is defeated and helps with the fledgling stages of the Lucerni movement. He never sees the south again and eventually succumbs to the taint in Dragon 9:44 shortly after Dorian’s return from the Exalted Council.05 : victory, vigilance, sacrifice ( Dragon 9:41 ) The Grey Warden verse.a) If the mages were sided with: Felix encounters a group of Orlesian Grey Warden during his race back to Tevinter. Initially he declines, travelling to Minrathous to stand before the Senate as planned. However, on what was to be his final journey back home to Asariel, he suddenly finds himself unable to face a quiet, lonely death. After setling his estate he impulsively decides to seek them out. Felix survives the Joining and thrives within the Order while managing to avoid drawing attention to himself. He eventually finds himself at Adamant Fortress with all the other Wardens. If the Inquisition ally with the Wardens, he and a small close-knit group then join the Inquisition as their liaison with the Orlesian Wardens who are rebuilding. but Eventually he will make his way to Weisshaupt once Corypheus is defeated where he continues to write to Dorian until Weisshaupt goes dark. If the Inquisition banishes the Wardens, he is naturally banished with the rest of them. They all immediately leave Orlais and go to Weissaupt. He will continue writing to Dorian for a time until the letters abruptly stop.b) If the Templars are sided with: Gereon and Felix immediately flee Redcliffe and the Venatori as soon as it becomes clear the Inquisition will not be arriving. Gereon uses his amulet to transport them several weeks into the future where they travel from small town to small town attempting remain hidden and without a plan. Felix suggests seeking out the Inquisition but Gereon does not trust the Inquisitor and is becoming increasingly paranoid and irrational. Felix's health is also deteriorating but manages to keep them going until he comes across a group of Warden near Crestwood searching for a deserter. They see that he is tainted and suggest he join them and he rapidly undergoes one of the most grueling impromptu Joinings to date as only one senior warden in the group knows how to perform the ceremony and they were not prepared to conscript. Felix survives and he and Gereon travel with them for a time as they head towards Orlais via a pass through the Frostback Mountains. Gereon doesn't make the journey and Felix refuses to travel further with the Wardens, Reasoning that he will probably die as well, they wish him luck and leave him with a few days supplies alone in the unforgiving mountains. He buries his father and takes his stave and time amulet before plunging onward. It isn't long before he finds well-worn paths that have recently been travelled on. He follows these for a few days until an Inquisition scout who had been tracking him for a time, catches up to him. He is taken to Skyhold where he is immediately taken for a Venatori and locked up and interrogated until Dorian steps in. Though technically his fate is tied to the Wardens, as far as they are concerned, he died in the Frostbacks. He stays with the Inquisition until Corypheus is defeated then travels with Dorian to Tevinter but a sense of duty compels him to instead part ways and head for Weissaupt.

9:27 Age 14: He survives the first of what will become a series of assassination attempts. He also starts travelling to Orlais to meet with the best mathematicians in Thedas who are impressed by this mild mannered boy with an effortless grasp of even the most advanced concepts.
9:29 Age 16: Of age, Felix is immediately given a scholarship at the University of Orlais.
